Keiren Westwood could play for Sheffield Wednesday sooner than expected - with the Owls currently in talks over his registration, according to the Yorkshire Live's Dom Howson.

Westwood hasn't featured for the Owls in almost 12 months and was completely frozen out by former boss Garry Monk.

Not only has the 36-year-old not been involved in a single first-team match this term, he hasn't been given a squad number and has even been forced to train with the club's Under-23s side.

Westwood was then left out of Wednesday's 25-man Championship squad, meaning he can't feature until January, when club's are allowed to resubmit their squads following the January transfer window.

However, when speaking to the press for the first time on Monday, new manager Tony Pulis talked up Westwood's chances of playing for Wednesday again, after saying: "I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship. If he was available, I would be looking to pick him."

And now, Yorkshire Live believe that the Owls are currently in discussions with the EFL about the possibility of making Westwood available sooner than first thought.

The Verdict

It might be early into his reign at Hillsborough, but Pulis is already hitting all the right notes.

With Cameron Dawson in poor form prior to the international break, having Westwood available would not only be a popular decision with the fanbase, but the outcome could desperately help the Owls on the pitch.
