Plenty of Middlesbrough fans have reacted on social media after the club announced the signing of Dutch defender Anfernee Dijksteel from Charlton Athletic.

The 22-year-old right-back has signed a three-year deal at the Riverside Stadium for an undisclosed fee and becomes head coach Jonathan Woodgate's fourth signing of the summer.

Dijksteel was a key player for Charlton last season and made 39 apperances for the club as Lee Bowyer's side won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

The defender scored one goal in 59 appearances for Charlton and made his final appearances for the club in the 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Dijksteel could make his debut for Middlesbrough when Brentford visit the Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Woodgate took charge at the Riverside Stadium earlier this year and is hoping to build a team that can challenge for promotion from the Championship this season, after the club just missed out on the play-offs under Tony Pulis' last term.

Middlesbrough finished seventh in the Championship table, one point outside the play-off places and missed out on a top-six finish on the final day of the campaign.

Plenty of Middlesbrough fans were quick to welcome Dijksteel to the club on social media, while some fans urged Woodgate to bring in more new players before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
