‘Keep him and play him’, ‘Real shame’ – These Ipswich Town fans react to James Norwood update

It looks like James Norwood’s time at Ipswich Town is set to come to a conclusion in the near future as he has been transfer listed by the Tractor Boys, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The 31-year-old arrived at Portman Road in the summer of 2019 under Paul Lambert’s management, having scored 29 goals in 45 appearances the season prior with Tranmere Rovers in League Two.

Hopes were pinned on Norwood that he could be the man to fire the Suffolk side back to the Championship, and he tried his best with 11 goals in his debut season, which was cut short thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quiz: Have any of these 30-ex Ipswich Town players ever played abroad?

Norwood failed to break double figures in league goals last season by scoring nine times, but he was one of the only few star performers when Paul Cook took over from Lambert in March, scoring four times following the ex-Wigan Athletic manager’s appointment.

Cook freshened his options up at the top end of the pitch this summer though and with Macauley Bonne coming into fantastic scoring form and Joe Pigott being his deputy, Norwood’s chances have become limited and he’s only appeared twice in League One this season.

And with his contract coming to an end this summer, the decision has been made to list the experienced forward for transfer and he’s also been moved to train with the under-23 squad, which makes a comeback look impossible.

Ipswich fans have been reacting to the news and it’s fair to say that there’s some slightly disappointed with how Norwood is being treated.
