Sheffield Wednesday right-back Liam Palmer is to miss the next three games after picking up a straight red card against West Brom on Saturday.

Garry Monk’s side faced a tough trip to the Hawthorns to face a West Brom side currently occupying top spot in the Championship, having yet to taste defeat at home all season. The game looked threatened to swing either way on Saturday with both sides coming very close to scoring on multiple occasions.

It wasn’t meant to be for the Owls as a late penalty saw Charlie Austin give the home side the three points to extend their run at the top of the table. After the winning goal went in for the Baggies, things went from bad to worse for Wednesday as Scotland international Liam Palmer was given a straight red card for a reckless lunge on Grady Diangana in stoppage time.

The red card carries an automatic three-game suspension for the right-back, leaving Garry Monk with a tough selection dilemma heading into the next few games, with the Owls already having defensive troubles to cope with, after multiple injuries to key players in recent months.
