Derby County have underachieved this season after being among the favourites for a return to the top-flight before the 2016/17 campaign got underway.

The Rams go into the final few matches of the season with nothing to play for, having dropped out of the play-off race.

Sheffield Wednesday's victory over QPR meant that it was mathematically impossible for Derby to make the top six, meaning their attentions have turned to next season.

Derby are onto their third permanent manager of he season after sacking two of their gaffers following poor form.

Gary Rowett replaced Steve McClaren in March, who succeeded Nigel Pearson, who lasted just nine league games.

Gary Rowett must use the final few games to assess his squad to see who he wants to keep at the club next season.

Recent performances under Rowett have been poor, despite a decent start.

There are several players that haven't performed to the standards expected by the fans this season and they are at risk of being axed.

Football League World writer Rob Booth identifies THREE players who aren't good enough for Derby......

Marcus Olsson

Marcus Olsson arrived in Derbyshire in January 2016 from Blackburn Rovers and has been one of many Paul Clement signings that hasn't hit it off in a Derby shirt.

The Swedish man has made 30 appearances in all competitions for Derby this season, but has underperformed.

Too many opposition wingers have got the better of him down the left hand side and many Rams fans feel it's time for him to go.

Olsson has played 48 games overall since joining Derby, and his only goal for the Rams was the winner in the East Midlands derby back in March 2016, when what was then Darren Wassall's side beat Nottingham Forest 1-0.

Scott Carson

Many feel Scott Carson has had a decent season for Derby, but like many other players he's not been great.

Carson's form picked up during the incredible run Derby went on earlier in the season in the build up to Christmas, a run that saw Derby win 7 games in a row.

Scott Carson is good at winning aerial balls, and picking crosses out of the air.

However, the 31-year-old cannot get down quick enough to save low shots, nor can he keep goal kicks in play, the majority of Scott Carson's goal kicks go out for throw ins.

Carson is getting older and isn't playing that well.

A new goalkeeper that's younger, more agile and is just an all round better 'keeper would be much welcome at Pride Park this summer.

Darren Bent

Darren Bent had a decent run of form earlier on this season, under Steve McClaren, in which he scored 11 goals in 17 games.

However Bent has now failed to score in his last 8 matches, and in Monday's game with Huddersfield Town he contributed absolutely nothing to the game as the Rams put in a poor performance and scraped a 1-1 draw.

The former England international's contract expires in the summer, and as Gary Rowett looks to lower the wage bill and cut the squad size down, Darren Bent could be shown the door.
