Sunderland kept up the pressure on Barnsley as they ran out convincing 3-0 winners of Accrington Stanley on Wednesday evening.

One man who looked impressive in the win was Kazaiah Sterling, who netted his first senior goal as he rounded off the perfect night for Sunderland.

There were high hopes for Sterling when he first arrived with the club, but he has struggled for game time since completing his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur.

He is yet to make a league start for Jack Ross' side, but it will have been pleasing to see him net his first goal for the club recently.

The youngster has a point to prove and has evidently got something about him, and he'll be hoping to keep the pressure on the likes of Will Grigg for his starting spot.

If he can build on this impressive showing, then he could play an important role in deciding whether Sunderland finish inside the automatic promotion places.

Sterling will be hoping to be involved when Sunderland are next in action against Rochdale this weekend, in a game where they will be expected to pick up an all-important three points.

The Verdict:

This goal could do him the world of good.

Sterling looked sharp in the win over Accrington and could provide Jack Ross with a welcome selection headache ahead of the remainder of this year's campaign.

He's got a point to prove and could play a crucial role in their promotion bid this season.
