MK Dons manager Karl Robinson says he wants to learn from his Capital One Cup test against Ronald Koeman's Southampton side, during an interview with OneMK earlier this week.

Robinson's men achieved promotion to the Championship for the first time in the club's history last year, and have made a fairly solid start to this season with only two defeats to their name in all competitions.

They beat League Two side Leyton Orient 2-1 in the dying moments in the Capital One Cup first round, before beating Cardiff City by the same margin this week to draw Southampton in the the third round.

The Dons also enjoyed a fine run in last year's competition, where they famously scalped Manchester United in a stunning 4-0 win thanks to braces from Will Grigg and Benik Afobe.

Robinson says that he wants to learn from Saints boss Koeman, who joined the club last year and stunned the Premier League with a seventh-place finish despite losing a host of key players during the previous summer.

He told the OneMk: “For me coming against Ronald Koeman will be really interesting and obviously the last time we came up against a Dutch manager we did very well (Louis van Gaal and Manchester United) although I’m sure we won’t be as successful this time!

“It’s almost a perfect one for me.

“We can learn lessons and I really want the opportunity to speak to their manager.

“He has got so much experience managing around Europe and that’s something I want to do at some stage in my career, but not yet!

“I want to be the best I can possibly be and he is someone who has done it in a number of different countries and it will be a tremendous learning curve for me and for our players.”
