Having picked up 18 points from their opening seven games, Oxford United sit in seventh place in the League One table.

The U's, who have fallen at the third-tier play-offs in last two seasons, had a summer of strong recruitment, bringing in the likes of Steve Seddon, Marcus McGuane, and Nathan Holland, whilst the addition of Herbie Kane was somewhat of a statement signing.

In what is expected to be another promotion push this time out, Oxford will be hoping to be able to give that little bit more needed to earn Championship football.

Speaking to the Banbury Cake about an increased importance in the upcoming January transfer window, Robinson said: “Hopefully there will be one or two players coming in to make the squad even better.

“My job between now and then is to make sure we’re still in that position where we can see the play-offs.

“If we can still see them, we’d like to think we’d be so aggressive in January.

“You don’t want to overspend this year, that can be quite wasteful.

“We need to be calculated in our approach, as I think the league will be a bit different this time next year.

“That’s where we really have to put our best foot forward.”

The verdict

Oxford have been at the top end of the division for a while now, but the fact that they have fallen at the last hurdle in the past two seasons will need to be addressed.

An "aggressive" January transfer window could certainly be the missing piece, as it will not just bring better players to the squad, but it will create a competitive environment.

Oxford have been a strong League One outfit for quite some time now, and whilst the competition levels have increased within the division, it is expected that they're bound for another promotion push this season.
