Oxford United manager Karl Robinson has admitted that the club are currently pursuing a number of loan deals this summer.

The U's are also trying to make some permanent signings ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Oxford managed to bolster their squad at the weekend by sealing a permanent deal for Ciaron Brown.

As confirmed by the club's official website, Brown has signed a two-year contract which will keep him at the Kassam Stadium until 2024.

Brown, who enjoyed a temporary spell at Oxford last season, was released by Cardiff City earlier this month.

Oxford targeted the loan market last summer as they managed to secure the services of Nathan Holland, Gavin Whyte, Jordan Thorniley and Herbie Kane.

Aiming to push on in League One after finishing eighth in the standings earlier this year, the scale of Oxford's success at this level may depend on whether they are able to nail their transfer recruitment.

Set to take on Derby County on July 30th, the U's will be keen to add some fresh faces to their squad in the weeks leading up to this clash.

Making reference to the club's transfer plans, Robinson has admitted that Oxford are currently pursuing deals.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Robinson said: "We've spoken to five while we've been here [training camp in Spain], some in case deals don't come off, some because we really want them.

"We know which loan players we want.

"The loan players will be going with their teams on the first bit of their pre-season tours, and we're still working hard with one or two [permanent] deals as well."

The Verdict

Having recently managed to convince Elliot Moore, Alex Rodriguez-Gorrin and Billy Bodin to sign new deals at the club, Oxford could potentially emerge as legitimate contenders for a top-six finish if they add some more classy operators to their side.

Given that Robinson's side have managed to qualify for the play-offs in the third-tier in two of the last three seasons, they will fancy their chances of challenging at the top of the table.

In terms of loan signings, Oxford will be keen to draft in players who they believe have the potential to set League One alight with their performances.

Whereas it may take some time for these players to adjust to life at the Kassam Stadium, there is no reason why the U's cannot go on to benefit from being able to call upon the services of these individuals.
