Nottingham Forest are making big statements this summer with the board seriously backing Aitor Karanka to lead the Reds back to the Premier League.

The East Midlands side have smashed their club-record transfer fee to land Benfica attacking midfielder Joao Carvalho and also brought in his teammate Diogo Goncalves which was a coup for the club.

Further additions appear smart too, with Michael Dawson returning to the club to add experience and know-how in the centre of defence.

As well as that, more new faces are likely as Karanka is given all the backing he needs.

However, given these arrivals, it's inevitable that players are going to leave. Here we look at three potential departures that would free up some space to make the squad better...

Going by Forest's signings, they are keen on playing an attractive brand of football and the easiest comparison is with Wolves last season.

Therefore, it's hard to see how Murphy fits in. The big man is better in a side that play direct football but that won't be the case at the City Ground. He has also suffered with injuries, so Forest are best trying to move the player on, who would surely want to play regularly at his age.

The new signings at Forest aren't expected to stop and midfielders are sure to arrive.

That will mean that Bouchalakis, who didn't feature much last season, has got very little chance of playing. He's been linked with a move and it seems inevitable.

Similarly, Mancienne didn't play much last season and the arrival of Dawson means he won't play. Left-back Danny Fox was preferred at centre-back for the past few months which highlights what Karanka thinks.

Forest should be aiming for better and the former Chelsea defender will look to move on to get regular football.
