Aitor Karanka believes that David Vaughan and Jack Hobbs deserve a chance with another club.

Both players had contracts that ran out at the end of this season, and Karanka has decided not to offer them new deals.

Vaughan picked up an injury which ruled him out for the majority of Karanka's tenure while Hobbs was only able to return from his own injury on the final day.

This is what Karanka had to say about the two players as quoted by the Nottingham Post: "It has been difficult with both of them. Everyone knows how good players they are. It has been a pleasure to work with them in the last few months.

"Vaughan has been amazing, even if he got injured, just as we were changing the team.

"I think it was better for everyone to go forward and to move on. He (Hobbs) deserves the best, he deserves a chance to show what he can do – and to play football."

The Verdict

The decision to let them leave as free agents was the right move because both had significant injury problems and Forest have plenty of options in their positions. There is no point taking a risk on them after the individual issues they have had this season.

However, Karanka was right to point out how they deserve another chance because they could be good additions for certain clubs with Hobbs only being 29-years-old, so he still has quite a few seasons left in him while Vaughan could be an experienced player to bring into a midfield or as a substitute to see out games.
