Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka has confirmed that the club are working on a deal to sign Karim Ansarifard on a free transfer.

The striker was released by Olympiacos last week and is expected to move to the City Ground as the Reds look to add depth up top after youngster Ben Brereton joined Blackburn Rovers.

After confirming Forest's interest in the 28-year-old, Karanka did also admit that a deal for the Iranian international wouldn't be completed in time for Saturday's game against Swansea.

"I know that something is there, potentially. And I have said always that if something is there, that can arrive and that is interesting, I would be happy," he told the Nottingham Post.

"Karim is a good player and if we can do something with him, it would be perfect for me. I do not expect him to arrive in time for this weekend. We would not have time to bed him in and I do not know, exactly, how things are going."

The Verdict

The fact that Karanka is talking so openly about the player suggests the deal is at a very advanced stage and you would expect it to go through early next week.

Ansarifard would add a lot to the Forest side, he has a very good goalscoring record in Greece and could thrive in the Championship.

He would surely be the last signing for the Reds in what has been a quite incredible few months in terms of bringing in new players.
