Aitor Karanka has suggested that Adam Clayton could be out for a period of time with an ankle injury following Birmingham City’s win over Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Blues will have been pleased to get a good win on the board over the Terriers but it appears to have come at a bit of a cost.
Indeed, Spanish manager Karanka was asked after the game whether Clayton was going to be alright after seemingly picking up a knock and he was suitably pessimistic on that front.
He said, as quoted by Birmingham Live:
“I don’t think so. He showed big character, I can’t say what he showed. But I think he is going to be out, a difficult injury. Ankle.”
Adam Clayton has proven a regular in the Birmingham side since joining in the last transfer window and so losing him will likely be a blow to Aitor Karanka’s plans.
He’s made seven appearances in the league so far for his new team but it now remains to be seen how many games he is going to miss.
Of course, we’ll have to wait for a full update on the length of time he is going to be out for but even a brief period will see him miss a few games given the nature of the season and how congested it is.
A trip to Preston is up next, followed by a home game with Wycombe next Wednesday.
