Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of defender Michael Dawson on a free transfer, according to HITC.

Would the experienced former Premier League player be a good signing for Aitor Karanka's Forest?

We discuss....

Ben Barkworth

Dawson suits Forest because they are unlikely to be ambitious under Karanka, with a low block and counter-attacking approach being probable, so he can focus on his strengths such as his defensive contributions.

George Dagless

A top signing.

Forest's defence will look very strong with Dawson in alongside Figueiredo and Joe Worrall supporting them.

The Reds need to add to their attacking options as well this summer but this would be a fine way to get the window going for them.

Chris Gallagher

He's a decent signing.

Dawson is a leader and will be a useful figure to have at the club to set the standards off the pitch.

He still has a lot to offer as a player but it's certainly debatable as to whether he's good enough for a side that want to go for promotion when you look at Hull's defensive record this season.

Overall though, he knows the club and will bring something to the group.

Alfie Burns

Absolutely, his experience on and off the pitch will be huge.

Forest have lacked somebody with his type of leadership for some time and he will help resolve so many issues at the City Ground.

Karanka needs to get him signed ASAP.
