Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has come out to dismiss rumours that the club had placed a bid for Middlesbrough's Adam Clayton.

The pair know each-other well from the time when Karanka was at the helm at the Riverside Stadium.

Clayton is struggling to break into the starting eleven this season, and he's been linked with a move away on many occasions already this window.

Is Karanka being coy? Should Forest launch a move for him?

That needs to change then!

Adam Clayton is exactly what Forest need and a player Karanka knows well, but they will need to act quickly.

There are sure to be several Championship clubs interested in the player but the Reds need to make sure they are at the front of the queue.

I think Karanka must know deep down that Clayton’s wages mean that he is out of reach for Forest at this stage.

Also, Boro are up there and I expect them to be in the promotion mix by the end of the season, while I think Forest will fall short of being in the race.

Karanka is wily enough to realise that Clayton won’t come in this window and that’s why he hasn’t bid.

There is obvious interest in Clayton from Forest, and if the midfielder is to be on the move this month, Karanka needs to be doing everything in his power to get him to the City Ground.

Obviously, Karanka will not want to discuss Clayton publically before a deal has been agreed with Boro, but he is a player that needs to be targeted by Forest, as he would bring so much to their squad.

If a bid hasn’t been made yet, then Forest need to be lining one up.

Karanka is being coy.

Clayton is the kind of player Forest need and he's also the sort of player that the manager likes so I think we'll see a bid before too long.

He's not playing at Middlesbrough much, either, and so it would be worth a go.
