Nottingham Forest are looking to bring Fabio to the City Ground, with the Middlesbrough full-back emerging as one of Aitor Karanka’s transfer targets.
Karanka is keen to strengthen Forest’s defensive options and solve the problem position of left-back at the City Ground.
Fabio is a man on his radar, with the Spaniard hoping that the lure of regular football at the City Ground will convince the 27-year-old to make the switch across the Championship.
During his two-years so far with Boro, Fabio has made 54 appearances and returned two goals.
However, last year, Fabio struggled to make a major impact at the Riverside Stadium, featuring on just 25 occasions across all competitions.
The bulk of those appearances came under Garry Monk during the first-half of the season, with Tony Pulis then preferring George Friend in the left-back role.
Post-Boxing Day, Fabio made just six appearances for Pulis as Boro went in search of play-off football.
The Brazilian featured as a substitute in both legs of Boro’s play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.
Fabio is a player Karanka knows well, with the two having previously worked together at Middlesbrough.
Forest are desperate to strengthen their squad this summer, with full-back a problem position.
With Fabio in a difficult position at Boro, he could well be open to making the switch, which could be a shrewd one for all parties involved.
At 27, Fabio still has a lot to offer in the Championship.
