Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips insists that there should be no concerns about the squad depth at the club as they get ready to welcome back some key individuals to the team.

A run of two wins in seven games has seen the Whites go into the international break in third but they will be boosted by the return of Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi when they face Blackburn next time out.

The trio, particularly the attacking pair, were major losses for Marcelo Bielsa as they had been in fine form before they were ruled out through injury.

Yet, Leeds managed to grind out results without them and are third in the league having lost just once all season.

And, Phillips told the Yorkshire Evening Post that they have proven there is enough quality in the group.

"Touch wood, there are no more injuries but if there are then we’ve got players to step in and do a job. It goes to show how good a squad we’ve got, and the depth of it."

Although, the 22-year-old did admit that it will be a massive help to get the injured players back out on the pitch.

"With them coming back after the international break, and with tough games coming up, we’ve got a really good chance of hitting the ground running and getting some good results."

The Verdict

Leeds have done very well to remain within touching distance of the leaders given the injury situation they had so you would say Phillips has a point.

However, two wins in seven is not good enough to sustain a top two challenge so there is an argument to suggest they would need improvements if players were out for a longer period.

For now though, they will welcome back Berardi, Hernandez and Roofe who should make a big difference and Bielsa can then decide on pushing for new recruits in January.
