Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has responded to a message from Arsenal legend Ian Wright on social media.

The 23-year-old has been an important player for Leeds so far this season and played a key role in midfield as the Whites continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Brentford at Elland Road last night.

Eddie Nketiah scored the winner in the 81st minute, just moments after coming off the bench for his home debut.

The on-loan Arsenal striker turned in Helder Costa's cross to give Leeds a deserved victory, which sees them return to the top of the Championship table on goal difference.

Wright was at Elland Road last night took to social media after the game to express his delight at Nketiah scoring the winner and also sent a message to Leeds midfielder Phillips, congratulating him on his performance.

Wright posted a photo of himself with Phillips on his personal Instagram story and it did not take long for the Leeds player to respond.

Phillips responded to Wright with a message on his own Instagram story, calling him a legend.

Phillips was an extremely important player for Leeds last season and the defensive midfielder has played every minute of football for the Whites so far this term.

Leeds have now equalled last season's impressive start of ten points from their opening four league games and will be hoping to continue their momentum against Stoke City at the weekend.

The Verdict

Wright has expressed his admiration for Leeds a few times on social media and as an Arsenal man, I'm sure he would have been delighted to see Nkeitah score the winner on his home debut.

It seems Wright is also a big fan of Phillips and I'm sure midfielder will really appreciate this message from the Arsenal legend, who had a fantastic career at the top level.

Phillips was magnificent for Leeds in the Championship last season and he's instrumental to the way the team play.

The midfielder is going to have another important role to play for the Whites this term and has already made an encouraging start to the new campaign.
