Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips has apologised to the fans after he was sent off in the 1-0 loss at QPR yesterday.

The defensive midfielder was shown a straight red following a late, high tackle on Geoff Cameron and he could have few complaints about the decision made by the official.

Even though it had little impact on the game, with Phillips dismissed in the 88th minute, he now faces a three-game ban and that is a massive blow to Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds.

And, the academy graduate reflected on that in an honest message to the support on Instagram after the game.

"Sorry to the #LUFC fans for my red card yesterday. It wasn’t intentional but I timed the tackle badly. I’m a Leeds fan as well as a player so maybe a little frustration that we have all been feeling was shown but that’s never an excuse.

"Beyond gutted to miss the next 3 games, And I will make sure I do everything I can during and after my ban to make this dream for all of us come true! We stick together and we march on!"

The verdict

You have to appreciate Phillips' honesty here but that still doesn't take away from the fact it was a moment of stupidity from him.

He is such a good and important player to the team and he will be sorely missed for three games now as the Whites don't really have anyone who can provide what Phillips does.

It's about learning from this now though and he will go back to being a fan for the next few weeks as he watches his teammates from the stands.
