Kalvin Phillips has congratulated the Leeds United Under-23s on their Professional Development League play-off final victory, with a post on social media.

Carlos Corberan's side won the title with a penalty shootout victory over Birmingham City, after a goalless draw at Elland Road on Monday afternoon.

Jack Clarke scored the winning penalty and goalkeeper Kamil Miazek made two important saves in the shootout, as Leeds were crowned champions.

Phillips posted this photo on his personal Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon, congratulating the young players on their achievement.

Phillips has had an outstanding season for the Leeds first-team in the Championship, having been transformed into a defensive midfielder under the guidance of head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

The Whites senior side finished third in the Championship table and face Derby County in the play-off semi-finals, with the first leg taking place at Pride Park on Saturday evening.

The Verdict

Phillips has been an important player for Leeds this season and came through the academy at Elland Road himself, so it is nice to see him give his congratulations to the young players.

It has been a brilliant season for the Whites' academy side, who finished top of the northern section of the Professional Development League and reached the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup.

The young players will be hoping to follow in Phillips' footsteps, by making the step up to the first team at Elland Road in the future.
