Kalvin Phillips has sent a message to Leeds United fans after the 3-0 win over Salford City in the Carabao Cup last night.

The 23-year-old put in a man-of-the-match performance in midfield as Leeds ran out comfortable winners at Moor Lane - with goals from Eddie Nketiah, Gaetano Berardi and Mateusz Klich.

Salford were making their debut in the competition and made a bright start, but Nketiah put Leeds ahead from close range moments before half-time.

The visitors made a strong start to the second half and Berardi doubled their lead five minutes after the restart by flicking in Helder Costa's corner at the near post, before Klich made it 3-0 from the edge of the box eight minutes later.

Leeds will face Stoke City in the next round of the competition at Elland Road later the this month, with the match taking place just three days after the two teams meet in the Championship.

The Verdict

I thought it was an entertaining game last night and even though Leeds ran out comfortable winners in the end, I thought the Salford players gave a really good account of themselves.

The most important thing for Leeds is to get through to the next round, but there are plenty of positives for Marcelo Bielsa to take away from that performance.

Perhaps what will please fans that most is that Nketiah was able to score on his debut, but there were lots of encouraging displays from the Leeds players.
