Kalvin Phillips has issued a response to Leeds United teammate Barry Douglas on Instagram, with the Scot paying tribute to ‘The Yorkshire Pirlo’ by sporting his recognisable 23 shirt.
Leeds have a real feel-good factor surrounding them at this moment in time, topping the Championship table and focusing on getting back to the Premier League for the first time since 2003/04.
At the heart of their side is Phillips, whose role in holding midfielder is so important to the side and how they operate under Marcelo Bielsa.
Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?
On the terrace, a number of supporters are seen in the ‘Phillips 23’ jersey, and today on Instagram, Barry Douglas has revealed he has his own version of the 2019/20 top with his teammate’s name and number on the back.
And, in response to that, Phillips has sent three emojis back to his Scottish pal:
Phillips and Douglas are part of the Leeds squad currently sitting top of the Championship table and pushing for a return to the Premier League.
Leeds are a point clear of West Brom, but there’s significant daylight of seven points between the Whites and Fulham, who sit third and hold the biggest threat to the top two at this stage.
The bond the Leeds squad have at the moment is great to see.
Tributes like this from Douglas and the response from Phillips tells you how close this group is.
Marcelo Bielsa has been key to bringing them all together and that relationship off the pitch is contributing to the club moving to the verge of a Premier League return.
