Kalvin Phillips is determined to help Leeds United to the Premier League, with that objective hopefully opening the door for him to play for the England National Team.

Leeds have seen their side built around Phillips, with Marcelo Bielsa having unwavering faith in the 24-year-old in a holding midfield role.

Over the past two seasons, Phillips’ style of play has helped him become one of the best players in the Championship, with Leeds fighting for promotion since Bielsa arrived.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

Currently, Leeds sit top of the Championship table and on the verge of a Premier League return, with only nine games separating them from that.

Phillips’ ambition is to lead Leeds back to the top-flight and beyond that he’s got eyes on an England cap, with Gareth Southgate already keeping tabs on him.

In a Q&A with Forza Football Academy, Phillips revealed: “Get Leeds promoted, hopefully this season.

“Get Leeds back to being a big club in the Premier League and hopefully make an England appearance.”

A ball hasn’t been kicked in the Championship since the first weekend of March, but Leeds and Phillips are back in training this week and have a view to the season restarting.

The Verdict

Phillips is a local lad and Leeds fan, which means he will be more than determined to help the Whites back to the Premier League.

From a personal point of view, it opens up a number of options to the 24-year-old if he’s playing Premier League football, including an England call-up.

There’s few that believe there are better options in the holding midfield position to Gareth Southgate, so, there’s a very good chance Phillips earns this chance.
