Leeds United talisman Kalvin Phillips has sent a message via Instagram ahead of his return to the first-team side this evening.

The defensive midfielder missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town as he was serving a one-game ban for receiving five yellow cards in the Championship this season.

Prior to that game, the 24-year-old had been integral to Leeds' season so far–starting every game other than the tie with the Terriers and helping the side to concede the fewest goals and keep the most clean sheets in the division.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed yesterday that Phillips would be returning to the side for tonight's game against Hull City at Elland Road.

It appears the midfielder can't wait to get back on the pitch and he took to Instagram to express his excitement, sending a two-word message: "Nearly time".

A product of the Yorkshire club's academy, the 24-year-old made his debut for the club in 2014 and has gone on to make 162 appearances since.

Leeds will be happy to have Phillips back in the starting XI, not least because they're coming up against a Hull City side that are amongst the top scorers in the Championship this season.

The Verdict

It's a huge boost for Leeds to have Phillips back and raring to go for what could be a tough test against the Tigers this evening.

Grant McCann's side are not someone that should be underestimated, as their recent 4-0 win over promotion-chasers Preston North End indicates.

The defensive midfielder has improved hugely since Bielsa took charge and become one of the finest players in the division–as evidenced his place in the EFL Team of the Season in 2018/19 and his place as the fourth-highest rated player in the Championship in this campaign (Whoscored).
