Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has given his thoughts on playing some of the season at centre-back.

The 23-year-old is naturally a defensive midfielder but has been used as a centre-back by Marcelo Bielsa at times this campaign.

Phillips has been an important player for Leeds this season, making 37 appearances in the Championship, scoring one goal and delivering three assists for his teammates.

His impressive displays have seen him named in the EFL's Championship Team of the Season, alongside Leeds defender Liam Cooper.

Phillips was speaking to the media alongside his manager at a press conference ahead of tomorrow night's Championship clash with Preston North End and gave his thoughts on playing at centre-back.

"It varies. It depends on how we start a game and how we're playing," said Phillips, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I've played centre-back a few times and we've played well. I've played centre-back a few times and we haven't. It just comes down to us," he added.

Leeds dropped out of the Championship's top two at the weekend but will return there with a win at Deepdale tomorrow, with second-placed Sheffield United not in action until Wednesday.

The Whites are currently third in the league table, two points behind the Blades and eight behind leaders Norwich City in the race for automatic promotion.

The Verdict:

Phillips has enjoyed a good season for Leeds in the Championship and will be firmly focused on ending it with promotion to the Premier League.

He has proved himself to be a versatile player, having performed well at both centre-back and in midfield.

The player will be hoping to continue his good form as the season reaches its conclusion.
