Kalvin Phillips has described Jack Clarke as a massive talent, as the Leeds United academy product pushes for his first start under Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds are known for producing some top talent, with Clarke looking like he might be the latest to break into the first-team on a regular basis.
Bielsa has so far been reluctant to hand Clarke a start, but the 17-year-old has made a couple of cameo appearances from the bench in recent weeks, particularly impressing against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
Despite Leeds’ defeat, Clarke was direct and had four shots at goal – more than any other Leeds player.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Phillips, 22, delivered an exciting verdict on his teammate: “He’s a massive talent. He’s been training with us since the start of the season and we’ve always known that he’s the type of player who can take people on and get the people excited.
“He did that (at Blackburn) and if he carries on working like he has done then he’ll get better and better.”
Leeds tasted defeat for just the second time this season at Ewood Park on Saturday, with Bielsa’s side looking to bounce back against Ipswich Town tomorrow evening.
Clarke will be pushing for his first start, but faces tough competition, with Pablo Hernandez also pushing for a return to the starting XI after featuring from the bench at Blackburn.
The Verdict
Clarke is highly-rated at Elland Road and from what we saw on Saturday, it is easy to see why.
The winger was direct with his play and caused Blackburn a number of problems.
Against a struggling Ipswich side at Elland Road, Bielsa will surely be considering handing Clarke a starting berth.
