Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has sent a message to former teammate Izzy Brown after the attacker made his return to football on Wednesday night.

Brown spent the previous campaign on loan at Elland Road but it was a campaign plagued by injury and he was clearly delighted to return to the field in a friendly with Chelsea.

Taking to Instagram, the 22-year-old shared a photograph of himself in action for the Blues, along with the caption: "Felt good to be back out there????".

And, in the comments, Phillips gave his reply with a couple of encouraging emojis, to which the Chelsea man replied, "Miss you", along with a love heart emoji.

Brown stayed with Leeds through the entirety of the 2018/19 campaign but made just two first team appearances, once in the league against QPR and once in the play-off semi-final second leg against Derby  - a total of 11 minutes.

It remains to be seen where he will be playing during the 2019/20 but with Frank Lampard now in charge, he may hold hopes of pushing for a place in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.

The verdict

Leeds United's decision to bring in Izzy Brown last season easily looks like one of their worst in the transfer window in recent years.

And I do feel sorry for the player. He pretty much lost an entire season thanks to a string of unfortunate and he now faces a really challenging season.

Brown will have to prove himself capable of playing at whichever level he is sent to and he will be well aware of that.

If he doesn't he could soon find his career in a downward spiral.
