Middlesbrough secured their first win of the Championship season in the Saturday evening late kick off, with a 1-0 win over newly-promoted Sheffield United.

Following an opening day defeat at the hands of Wolves last weekend, Garry Monk got the reaction he'll have been looking for from his Boro squad, as Rudy Gestede's first half strike was enough to secure all three points for the home side.

A controversial last-minute disallowed goal - more accurately, an own goal by Dael Fry, that was ruled out when Jack O'Connell was deemed to be offside - for the visitors ensured Boro finished their first home league match of the season with all three points, and condemned Sheffield United to their first league defeat since January 24, when they were in League 1.

Boro fans were not totally convinced by their side's performance, but acknowledged that the result was important and there was a lot of love for midfield maestro and yesterday's man of the match Adam Clayton.

On the controversial late disallowed goal, the home fans were convinced that it was offside and moreover, a dive to win the free kick which brought about the own goal in any case.
