Football League World's Sunderland fan pundit Charlie Hodgson has suggested that the club should look to offload striker Will Grigg, midfielder Dylan McGeouch, potentially goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin in January.

Sunderland have had a shaky start to the season but remain within touching distance of the League One play-off places–just one point and one place outside the top six.

New boss Phil Parkinson will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen his squad when the transfer window opens in January.

However, Hodgson has suggested he should also be looking to move a number of players on.

He explained: "In January, I would like to two players leave, Will Grigg and Dylan McGeouch.

"With Grigg, he just doesn’t seem to care and he can't even score to make it seem like he does. Hopefully, we can recoup some of the record fee we paid for him.

"McGeouch I’m afraid just isn’t good enough, I’ve tried to stick with him and have been a strong advocate of his but he just isn’t good enough.

He added: "Another player I would consider selling is Jon McLaughlin. He is just not the same player as last season and as he is aging, if we got a good offer for him I would seriously consider it."

Sunderland face Scunthorpe in a crucial EFL Trophy clash tonight, knowing that they will be knocked out of the competition if they fail to win.
