After making a season-long loan move from Tottenham to Aston Villa, big things were expected of Josh Onomah but it hasn’t quite gone to plan.

The England U21 international has struggled to make a serious impact with the first-team and would be on the bench if everyone was fit.

His struggles on the pitch have also been noted by the fans who sarcastically cheered as he was substituted at Sheffield Wednesday last week.

With Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah out, the game at Hillsborough provided the 20-year old with an opportunity to try and nail down a regular place in the Villa midfield, however, it didn’t happen.

And, as our graph shows, it hasn’t really happened for Onomah all season:

Despite playing in midfield, where you would expect him to regularly get on the ball, he is only making 23.6 passes per game, 1.1 dribbles per game and 2 tackles per game - Steve Bruce would've expected more.

That is also reflected in his productivity - whilst four goals from 28 appearances may seem bad, you have to realise many of those were substitute appearances, which makes his goal return acceptable.

Yet, one assist is not good enough for someone with Onomah’s creativity and ability to pick a pass.

Quite simply, the Spurs man has failed to live up to expectations and needs to improve quickly if he is to have an impact in the final 12 games for Villa.
