Junior Hoilett issues message ahead of Cardiff’s clash against Swansea

Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett has given his verdict on the important south Wales derby with Swansea City this weekend as the game ticks nearer and nearer.

WalesOnline reports that Hoilett was asked whether the derby was a special day in the pre-match press conference, and Hoilett said: “Definitely. Every derby is a special derby for the fans and players to go out there and put in a good performance for the fans.

“We have been working hard all week.”

The 29-year-old has netted three goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season for the Bluebirds, having been a regular in the side since Neil Warnock signed him from QPR in 2017.

Last time Swansea and Cardiff met in a south Wales derby was earlier on in the season, when the Swans took a 1-0 lead thanks to Ben Wilmot’s header and then managing to hold on for all three points.

1. Which Cardiff player did the Bluebirds sell in July?

Cardiff struggled during the early months of the season following relegation from the Premier League last season, but their results have improved since Neil Harris was appointed manager in November and he has taken them to within reach of the Championship playoff places.

The south Wales derby is always a hotly-contested encounter and both sides will be looking to take three points to boost their promotion hopes.

The Verdict

Hoilett will be feeling the pressure ahead of this game as one of the senior players, his responsibility having to get his team-mates up for the game.

The experienced winger will be determined to win the game and avenge the loss that they suffered at the hands of Swansea earlier on in the season, as Harris faces Swansea for the first time while Cardiff manager.
