Huddersfield Town midfielder Juninho Bacuna has opened up on the relationship he has with the Cowley brothers, ahead of the Terriers’ trip to Preston.

Huddersfield are in fine form at the moment, as they are currently on a run of seven games without defeat. This run has seen Town rise out of the relegation zone and up to 18th, where they are nine points behind sixth place.

This run in the league has been in no small part down to the work of new manager Danny Cowley and his brother, Nicky. Since their appointment in early September, Huddersfield have undergone an immense revival seeing them gain 15 out of their 16-point total.

One player who has been relishing in this resurgence has been Juninho Bacuna. The Curaçao international has been a huge part to Huddersfield’s unbeaten run, kickstarting it with the winning goal against Stoke City in what was the Terriers’ first league win of the season.

His impact hasn’t stopped there, with goals off the bench in the following two games to see Town get seven points and begin to turn their fortunes around. There has been some calling for Bacuna to have a regular spot in the starting 11 and it has taken a while for this to happen under the Cowley’s. However, he did start in Town’s last game, where they saw off Brentford.

Speaking to the club’s official site, Bacuna had this to say on his relationship with the coaching staff: “I speak a lot with the coaches, we try to build relationships outside of football where we can trust each other. If you’ve got that relationship with the coaches, they can trust you outside the pitch as well as inside it.

“It’s good when the coaches have confidence in you. I’m trying to give them something back on the pitch."

The Verdict

Since the appointment of the Cowley's, it’s been clear to see a complete overhaul in the mentality of the club, with the players’ confidence, mood, and relationships all growing by the week.

Bacuna has been a strong example of this with his on-pitch transformation, transcending confidence into the rest of his teammates. The Terriers face a tough game when they make the trip to Deepdale but with the confidence they are currently in, they will fear no one.
