Sunderland have been very active this summer in the transfer market as they look to make major changes to their squad after successive relegations.

And, more is to come as new boss Jack Ross looks to remove even more of the big earners and bring in his own players.

Whilst new owner Stewart Donald has promised to back the former St. Mirren boss, the reality is that Ross will have to search for free agents and bargains, which he has done so far.

Despite that, the objective for the Black Cats will be clear, as promotion is the only aim.

Here we look at three potential arrivals that would add quality to the Sunderland XI as they seek to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking...

Ross needs to bring in a few central defenders as that is an area they are particularly weak in.

And, Peterborough's Baldwin would be a smart addition and he's a player they've been linked with. At 24-years old he has time to improve but knows the division and is a leader.

Another good addition in that area would be Shrewsbury's Nsiala. He was crucial in the Shrews success, which was built on a strong defence.

Again, he knows the division, is a young, hungry player and fits the profile for the sort of addition they should be making.

Sunderland may have to be patient in their pursuit of Lewis Morgan but it could happen as the season draws closer.

He is a player that excelled at St. Mirren under Ross and Celtic will want him to get regular football in the next 12 months. His creativity, dribbling skills and vision would add a lot to the Black Cats attack.
