Blackburn Rovers spent one season in League One, but now they're back in the Championship with renewed hope for the coming season.

Tony Mowbray did a superb job of steering them round the tricky roads of the third-tier, finishing second to a brilliant Wigan team and earning the right to bounce back at first attempt.

With clever manipulation of the loan market as well as an astute purchase or two last summer, he was able to avoid the pitfalls of League One, unlike Portsmouth, Charlton and Coventry City before them.

Now they hope to carry the momentum forward into the coming season, maybe even emulate Sheffield United and Millwall in mounting a serious top six assault.

To do that, they'll need to look at the squad and use the month of July to add wisely. The loan market might be one avenue open to Mowbray as he essentially replaces players such as Jack Payne and Adam Armstrong who have returned to their parent clubs.

Here are three players FLW expects Blackburn to get into Ewood Park over the coming weeks.

Bauer has been interesting Blackburn this summer and they may well feel that their interest has dragged on long enough.

Charlton won't want to sell, but if the player wants to test himself in the Championship then a move is likely to happen.

Scunthorpe striker Holmes had interested Derby, but as they look to be setting their sights higher that leaves Rotherham and Blackburn to battle it out.

Holmes bagged nine last season for Scunthorpe but has bags of potential and Ewood Park was a place for fulfilling potential last campaign.

Whilst Payne may seem an obvious choice, there's no indication Huddersfield want him in their first team leaving the door open for a return to Ewood Park.

He knows the club and the fans and once the World Cup ends and the top flight starts to see some movement, Pane is likely to be sent back out on loan.
