Birmingham City picked up a much-needed win in the Championship on Wednesday evening, as they ran out 2-1 winners against Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers dominated the possession statistics on the night, but it was Aitor Karanka's side that took the chances that came their way.

The Blues took the lead after 27 minutes, when Gary Gardner opened the scoring, but the visitors equalised five minutes from time through Isaac Mbenza.

But Lukas Jutkiewicz netted a late winner to spark jubilant scenes amongst the Birmingham players, as they ended a winless run, which saw them drop down the Championship table.

Former Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham took to social media to react to the news of his former side picking up three points, and was clearly pleased with the outcome.

Bellingham was used as a late substitute in Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 win over Zenit in the second match of their Champions League group.

The youngster has made eight appearances for the German giants sine moving from Birmingham, and he'll be hoping he can continue to be involved as this year's campaign progresses.

Birmingham are set to return to action in the Championship this weekend, when they take on Preston North End at Deepdale, in what is certain to be a tough test for Aitor Karanka's side.

The Verdict:

It's good to hear that he's still keeping an eye on his former club.

Birmingham certainly didn't have the statistics in their favour against Huddersfield, but they took the chances that came their way, which is the most important thing.

The Blues could definitely benefit from having a player of Bellingham's creative ability in their squad this term, but they need to find a way of coping without him.

They've got the quality in their squad to be well clear of the relegation zone in the Championship this term.
