It's been a frustrating few seasons for Sunderland, who are now playing their football in League One under the management of Phil Parkinson.

They're sat seventh in the third tier standings, but are just three points adrift of the automatic promotion places, although recent off-the-field events have called an abrupt halt to fixtures across the country for the time being.

The days of playing their football in the Premier League will feel like a distant memory to plenty of the club's supporters at the moment, as Sunderland have become somewhat of a 'sleeping giant' in recent years, much to the frustration of the Stadium of Light faithful.

Sunderland's Twitter account recently took to social media to look back at Jozy Altidore's memorable strike against Chelsea, in a game which ultimately ended in 4-3 defeat for the Black Cats.

Altidore took to Twitter to react to the goal against the Blues, and was clearly a fan of the goal judging by his reaction on Friday evening.

Altidore is currently playing his football back in the USA, and has scored 72 goals in 141 appearances for Toronto FC in the MLS, in an impressive time with the club to date.

The Verdict:

What a fantastic goal this was.

Altidore might not have had the consistency he would have originally hoped for with Sunderland, but he scored some impressive goals in his time with the club.

His goal against Chelsea is surely going to be up there with the best he scored for the Black Cats, and he was clearly a fan of the strike against the Blues.

Sunderland are a long way from the Premier League, and they'll be hoping that this year's campaign can resume in the future, so that they stand a chance of finishing inside the top-six this term.
