Derby County winger Florian Jozefzoon is likely to remain at Pride Park for the rest of the season, with the 28-year-old unlikely to be bought by another club before the end of the transfer window, according to the Athletic reporter Ryan Conway.

Jozefzoon has really struggled to make much of an impact for the Rams so far this season under Phillip Cocu, with the winger having been limited to just ten appearances in the Championship, due to the form of the likes of Martyn Waghorn, Tom Lawrence, Jason Knight and Duane Holmes in the wide positions.

The winger has found himself moving further and further down the pecking order as the season has progressed, with the 28-year-old having featured more regularly during the first few months of the campaign as Cocu looked to asses his qualities, but he has featured just once since mid-October.

That suggests a move away from Pride Park could be the best possible option for the winger to go and get some regular game time elsewhere, but it now seems as though there is not the level of interest in him that would be needed to make a move happen at this stage.

The verdict

This will be a source of frustration for Jozefzoon, who would have been likely hoping that he would be able to find a move to a new club this month so that he can get back playing regularly again, after being frozen out of the first team picture of late by Cocu.

The winger arrived at Pride Park from Brentford in the summer of 2018 with a decent reputation, having scored seven goals and created seven assists in 39 appearances in the 2017/18 season for the Bees, which had raised hopes he could come in and make a real difference in the final third for the Rams.

However, despite a few glimpses of his potential during his first season with Derby last term, Jozefzoon found himself in and out of the side under Frank Lampard, though he did manage two goals in 28 Championship appearances as the Rams reached the play-off final.

Lampard’s departure in the summer with Cocu coming into replace him offered a fresh chance for the winger to claim a regular starting role, but the 28-year-old has struggled to really convince the Dutchman that he can command a regular starting role in his side.
