Journalist’s update suggests Aston Villa owners have made positive promises to Smith

A new era is dawning at Villa Park today with Dean Smith appointed as the club’s new manager late yesterday evening.

The club had been looking for a new boss for a week after Steve Bruce was removed from his job after the game against Preston.

Names come and went but eventually, Villa brought in Smith from Brentford after agreeing a compensation package with the Bees

Fans will be looking forward to seeing exactly what sort of football he can produce, then, and it would seem as though the owners have made assurances to him too.

Indeed, as Nick Mashiter points out on Twitter, Smith is not the sort of person to just jump up and run straight away, he will have sought certain promises:

It appears that the club have given him those, then, and fans will hope that he can deliver the promotion that they all crave.

The Verdict

Smith should be a good appointment.

He hasn’t rushed it despite obviously being a fan of the club and he should now have the time to build a side that plays great football.

If he is given space to do his job, Villa are going to be a force sooner rather than later.
