The Express and Star’s, Tim Spiers, has revealed that Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached 35 points in the Sky Bet Championship 17 matches earlier than they did last season, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side storm ahead at the top of the table.

Last night’s 2-0 victory over Fulham at Molineux moved Wolves onto 35 points from just 16 fixtures – a point tally that was not achieved last season under Walter Zenga and Paul Lambert until the 33rd game of the Championship campaign.

Wolves stumbled to a 15th place finish last season, but under Nuno are right in the hunt for promotion, particularly after goals from Romain Saiss and Leo Bonatini last night moved Wolves four points clear at the top of the Championship table heading into today’s fixtures.

Nuno’s side will remain top of the table heading into November’s international break, leaving Wolves in a strong position to push on for a Premier League return in the build-up to the Christmas period. Following next week’s international break Wolves head to Reading, before returning to Molineux to face Leeds United.

The Verdict

It is hard to criticise Wolves or Nuno at this current time, as even after any disappointing results, they are responding in the best possible way.

Defeat to QPR last weekend was hard to take, but Wolves have responded magnificently, as all promotion contenders do, with back-to-back victories.

Wolves’ points tally at this stage of the season indicates that promotion is on the cards. The build up to Christmas will be key, and if they can pick up some serious points between now and then, Nuno’s side will be hard to stop.
