Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post has urged Leeds United to start Samuel Saiz in this afternoon’s clash with Brentford in the Sky Bet Championship.

The respected YEP journalist has taken to Twitter to deliver his thoughts on Paul Heckingbottom’s selection, suggesting that he would recall Saiz to the starting XI after a positive impact against Derby County, amongst a host of other changes.

Saiz, 27, made a stunning comeback in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Derby, with Hay calling for his recall to the starting XI alongside Ezgjan Alioski, who made a goalscoring impact from the bench at Pride Park.

Elsewhere, Hay has called for Kalvin Phillips to replace Ronaldo Vieira in central midfield, with the Elland Road graduate his choice alongside Adam Forshaw, whilst Kemar Roofe is another of Wednesday’s starting XI to miss out in his team.

Defensively, Hay was left astonished by Leeds’ lacklustre display at Derby, with Pontus Jansson his only definite selection against Brentford this afternoon.

Heckingbottom has two points from his three Championship fixtures so far, and will be searching for a first victory of the season against an in-form Brentford side, who put five past Birmingham City during the week.

The Verdict

It is hard to argue with areas of Hay’s selection, with Roofe and Vieira certainly two of Leeds’ weakest players on Wednesday evening.

Likewise in defence, any one of Leeds’ back five could be dropped, with the exception of Jansson, who was terrific.

There has certainly been enough from Vurnon Anita to justify a recall for the Dutchman.
