Leeds United are still hoping to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as the club's new manager although it could be a very expensive deal for the club.

The renowned Argentinian coach has developed a superb reputation in the game because of his tactical approach that has influenced so many modern day managers.

Given that, he is able to demand a fairly hefty salary and Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay revealed that Bielsa was picking up £8m a year whilst at Lille, which was his last job.

To put that in perspective, a recent report suggested only Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho earn more than that figure in the Premier League.

Therefore, it is going to take a huge financial package by Championship standards for Bielsa to consider a move to Yorkshire, although the fact talks have progressed for so long suggests it could happen.

After a tough season last time out, it appears owner Andrea Radrizzani is determined to give the team more financial backing with the club linked with moves for Abel Hernandez and Kyle Bartley who would command big wages as well as Bielsa.

The Verdict

Bielsa's salary at Lille is quite astonishing and shows what he is able to demand given his standing in the game.

You can't imagine Leeds would be able to pay a similar wage as a Championship club but the prospect of bonuses and a significant rise if they got promoted may help them conclude the deal.

Either way, he is going to be expensive but if he takes Leeds back to the top-flight it would be well worth it.
