Sheffield Wednesday's new boss, Tony Pulis, will take charge of his first fixture this weekend when the Owls take on Preston North End.

Garry Monk's dismissal came at the start of the November international break, with Pulis appointed reasonably swiftly.

This coming weekend, it's Preston North End on the agenda for Pulis as he goes in search of three more points to boost Wednesday's survival hopes.

Quiz: Did these 17 Sheffield Wednesday players ever actually score a league goal for the club?

A change of management, naturally, brings fresh opportunities in the playing squad, with Tom Lees, Izzy Brown and Jordan Rhodes all tipped for a chance under the 62-year-old.

All three have endured a mixed start to the 2020/21 campaign, getting their chance under Monk, but also struggling for real consistency in the Championship.

However, as per Dom Howson on the Yorkshire Live's latest Q&A, there could be a chance in the starting XI for Lees, Brown and Rhodes this weekend against Preston.

Howson wrote: "I think Pulis will initially stick with a 3-5-2 system, depending on their injury list. That's the formation Wednesday have played all season.

"I can see Tom Lees coming back in. Perhaps Izzy Brown in midfield alongside Luongo and Bannan. Rhodes and Windass up top."

Wednesday sit 23rd in the Championship table at this moment in time.

The Verdict

Pulis will give every player a fresh start at Hillsborough and those that weren't part of Monk's plans might now come to the forefront of Pulis' project.

That's football and the way some things do go.

Lees is a player that Pulis will like. He is a robust defender and very experienced, which the manager is going to like.

Rhodes is another experienced Championship player, who just needs a little bit of belief in him. For many, he's the perfect fit for 'Pulis-ball'.

As for Brown, he needs a period injury-free in a system that gets the best out of him. Is 3-5-2 that system? I'm not sure.
