Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Andre Green doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, according to Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live.

Green is a free agent after his contract with Aston Villa expired recently. He also had spells on loan with Preston North End and Charlton Athletic in the Championship last season.

It had emerged that Wednesday were interested in a deal to sign the winger, but Howson has been offering an update on that interest this afternoon.

Quiz: Do Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have these 10 things in common?

He explained that there was once an interest in signing the 22-year-old on a free, but Wednesday appear to have moved onto new targets as Friday’s deadline approaches.

Howson wrote in his Q&A with Yorkshire Live:Don't think Green is a goer at this stage. Club looked at him earlier in the summer but appear to have moved on now.”

Garry Monk has overseen a positive start to the season for Wednesday, who, of course, began the campaign on -12 points following off-season developments.

In response to that, Wednesday have clawed back five points, with a win, two draws and single defeat from their opening four fixtures of the season.

They now sit just seven points adrift of Wycombe Wanderers and Nottingham Forest in the Championship table.

The Verdict

Green is a good player and, particularly on a free, it’s a surprise he hasn’t been snapped up yet.

However, the deadline is looming now and given that Green is a free agent he maybe isn’t a priority for clubs at the moment.

Wednesday could pick him up still after the deadline, which leaves their focus with other targets currently under contract elsewhere.

The club might have moved on for now, but that might not be the case entirely.
