Dutch side FC Utrecht have confirmed via their official Twitter account that Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has joined on a loan deal until the end of the season, with Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay commenting via his own Twitter account that he believes that the player is unlikely to return to the club.

The Polish international joined in the summer from FC Twente where he excelled in the Eredivisie, but failed to secure a first-team spot following his switch to Elland Road.

Klich’s frustrations became evident as the season wore on, and after being left out of the squad that travelled to Barnsley late last year, vented his frustration through social media.

The player will now hope to put his West Yorkshire nightmare behind him and establish himself with Utrecht, forcing his way into the Poland squad that will travel to Russia in the summer for the World Cup.

The Verdict

Something has certainly gone on behind the scenes at Elland Road, as it is a real surprise that Klich has been unable to break into the first-team.

Klich was one of the best midfielders in the Eredivisie and his signing was considered a real coup, and the fact that he could barely make the squad at Leeds is a real head-scratcher.

The player will now return to Holland looking to rebuild his career, and fans will put this one down as a transfer mistake likely to go down as one of the most unsuccessful moves in the history of the club.
