Nottingham Forest are sure to be monitoring Joe Worrall and Matty Cash's contract situation as they look to tie the academy graduates down to longer deals.

Converted right-back Cash is currently on a contract that runs until the summer of 2021, whilst Worrall's expires a year later.

Whilst there's no rush to secure the duo on longer contracts, particularly Worrall, Nottinghamshire Live reporter Barry Cooper revealed that it's something the Reds are constantly looking at.

"Joe penned a new long-term deal in 2017 and is keen to see that one extended, I understand. Forest will be keen to ensure he’s being paid to the level they think he should, and will want him to stay at the club.

"Like Worrall, Cash signed a new long-term deal in 2017 and Forest won’t want him leaving any time soon. There is a trend with the club in that they like to get their young players on long-term deals. It protects the player and the club."

Centre-back Worrall has been an ever-present under Sabri Lamouchi in the league this season, with Cash missing just the one game.

So, they have both played their part in Forest's excellent start, with the east Midlands outfit second in the Championship.

The verdict

Forest fans are sure to be pleased by this as it's clear that the duo are firmly in the long-term plans of the new manager and they deserve to be rewarded.

Given the connection they have with the club and the city, sorting a new deal should not be a problem and with years still to run on their deals now, there's no rush or panic.

That's smart from the hierarchy and they have left themselves in a good position.
