Leeds United will be without Samu Saiz, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi for Sunday’s visit of Bristol City, as the trio complete the final game of bans picked up for sending offs in recent weeks.

Saiz was handed a six-game ban for spitting at an opponent during the FA Cup defeat to Newport County, and Cooper and Berardi were handed bans for dismissals in defeats to Millwall and Cardiff City.

BBC journalist Adam Pope shared the update on Twitter, also commenting that central defender Pontus Jansson is just a single booking away from receiving a two-match ban in line with league rules on ten cards before the cut off date of week 37 of the season.

The Verdict

Leeds’ discipline problems have been their undoing this season, with red cards and needless fouls more often than not costing the Elland Road side priceless points in their quest for play-off football.

Many associated with the club will have been left ashamed of star playmaker Saiz’s dismissal against a League Two side, with straight reds for Cooper and Berardi leaving many bewildered.

New boss Paul Heckingbottom spoke of addressing the issue following his appointment, but after two yellow cards in the opening twenty minutes against Sheffield United and seventeen fouls given away, it appears the Barnsley boss has a long way to go before the issue is resolved.
