According to local football journalist Tim Spiers, Diogo Jota could be set to join an elite group of attackers if he scores two more goals this season.

Tim Spiers, of The Express and Star, has revealed that only three strikers have struck 20 goals in a season for Wolves since Steve Bull retired.

Jota has bagged 18 for the campaign so far with two matches remaining.

If he nets another two goals, he will become the fourth player to reach this feat since Steve Bull left Wolves in 1999.

Dean Sturridge, uncle of England striker Daniel Sturridge, was the first person to hit 20 after Bull retired when he notched 21 goals in the 2001/02 season.

This was followed up by Kenny Miller the following year with 24.

And the Scotsman got on the list again when he struck exactly 20 goals in the 2004/05 campaign.

The last person to join them on this list was Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

The former Manchester United forward reached the twenty mark in style, netting 25 times in the 2009/10 season for Wolves.

Jota, who signed initially on loan and is now permanently at Molineux, is hoping to join this exclusive list by grabbing two goals in the final two matches of the season.

The Verdict

This stat shows just how good the 21-year-old has been, especially considering several factors. He is young, unproven in England when he arrived and not even a striker. Whether he hits 20 this season or not, Jota will be a valuable asset for Wolves in the Premier League.
