Tottenham will need to pay more than the £13 million they're reportedly set to offer for Swansea City for Joe Rodon if they're sign the Welsh defender, according to journalist Alan Nixon

The deadline for deals domestic transfers is next Friday, giving Spurs until Friday to try and land the 22-year-old.

Recent reports have indicated that the Premier League club are in talks with the Swans and are set to offer £13 million for the defender.

Nixon has reported, however, that Spurs will have to rethink their valuation of Rodon if they're to get a deal done before next Friday's deadline as it will take more than £13 million to sign him.

Reports elsewhere have indicated that the Welsh club see the central defender as worth more than £20 million.

Rodon has established himself in the Swansea first team over the past few seasons and earned himself a regular place in the starting XI of Ryan Giggs' Wales side this term.

Do Cardiff City and Swansea City have these 10 things in common?

The Verdict

This will likely be a relief for Swansea fans but it's no surprise.

Signing Rodon for £13 million would be an absolute steal and there would need to be serious questions of the Championship outfit if they let the 22-year-old leave for that fee.

There isn't a huge amount of time left in the domestic window and you feel Swansea are in a strong negotiating position given the defender is still well in contract.

Steve Cooper will be hoping that the club will stand firm as Rodon looks set to be a key man as his side look to get back to the play-offs this term.
