Ian Dennis has stated that Stoke City will act swiftly to appoint a new manager after the club sacked Nathan Jones.

The Potters relieved the ex-Luton boss of his duties on Friday having seen the manager lose 10 out of the first 14 games of the new campaign.

Jones joined the club in January but has failed to make an impact, and the side couldn't build on positive results during his reign at the club, meaning he leaves them sitting in 23rd place in the Championship table.

With a key fixture on Monday against top of the table side West Brom, the Potters will want to act quickly to bring in Jones' successor.

BBC Reporter, Dennis, has said that the club will be looking for a quick appointment following the departure of Jones.

Dennis tweeted out: "Stoke City have been canvassing opinion and assessing options last couple of weeks. Expect them to move swiftly once Nathan Jones departure confirmed."

The Verdict

Yes, they need to act quick but this next appointment is so crucial in terms of the club's future and what's to come. Stoke have to get it right, as they can't risk dropping down to League One; that would be a disaster for the whole club.

Jones was given time, so the new manager will know that he has time to turn around the club's fortunes. It's set to be an interesting time at the club, as the new boss will know that he needs results as soon as possible to ensure that they're not in a relegation battle.

It would be a major shock if they were to go down, but this next appointment is key to the future of their club.
