Aston Villa could turn to Jorge Mendes to help the club bring in players ahead of the transfer deadline which is on August 9.

It's sure to be a very busy end to the window at Villa Park after a summer of turmoil has finally ended.

Billionaire duo Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are the new majority owners of the West Midlands club, providing them with real stability off the pitch.

They also gave their full backing for Steve Bruce to continue as manager, but will now need to help him bring in players after several key men left from the previous campaign.

And, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that the club are looking to follow a similar path to local rivals Wolves, who turned to the Portuguese super-agent to bring in players 12 months ago.

It worked too, with the Black Country side collecting 99 points as they ran away with the title.

Yet, it would be a remarkable decision from Villa, who were extremely vocal of Mendes' involvement with Wolves just a few months ago, even calling on the FA to investigate them.

The Mendes influence at Villa is about to start, with keeper Andre Moreira, his client, set to join.

The Verdict

This would probably be a good move for Villa as even though they now have owners prepared to put cash in, FFP could restrict them so going for high-quality loans makes sense.

And, Mendes has shown, with the likes of Willy Boly and Diogo Jota joining Wolves last season, he can find excellent players to drop down to the Championship on a temporary basis.

However, this setup is very strange considering their comments to Wanderers at the end of last season.
